If you look at basketball uniforms throughout the years, you see how things have changed. A teenager looking at late 80s, early 90s short shorts and tight jerseys might laugh at the exposure. Likewise, retired basketball players may look at today's loose, longer looks and wonder how the players don't get tangled up in so much fabric. Either way, to a basketball player, basketball uniforms are as important to them as the coaching they get and the practice time they use to perfect their games. They unite the team, define them and make a statement as they are seen by every spectator. Basketball uniforms, like most sports uniforms, can be used as an intimidation tool. Think of all the underdog movies that have featured a weak, just-put-together team. They put them in uniforms that a shabby and weak. The stronger, more powerful team usually comes in strong looking, modern uniforms. Not only that, the power players generally have matching warm ups and even shoes to make the team look more uniform and dominant. The intimidation technique of a team perfectly in sync is not only part of a team's mental game for other players, it's part of the general cohesiveness of a team. Looking alike, along with hours and hours of practice, helps a team feel united. A united team works better together, trusts each other and performs well. The best thing about getting new basketball uniforms for a team is the ability to get exactly what you want. Even working within the perimeters of wearing certain colors, those who choose uniforms can have a lot of freedom when it comes to choosing a uniform that will make a statement. Lettering fonts, logo placement, lettering sizes, colors, accent embellishments and a host of other options ensure that each team's uniform can be perfectly unique. Whether a coach chooses a big, bold font across the chest of the jerseys or a more artistic sweep of the lettering, the jerseys can make the statement a team wants to make. The possibilities are endless when you combine all the different fonts, colors and styles. It seems to be all about the shorts. While they used to be short and close to the body so the players could move freely without being inhibited by what they wear, now players like the look of long and baggy. The benefits to this style are similar to the shorter shorts. They are loose enough to not be felt. An added benefit is the lack of chaffing. Either way, however, they can look just as good and professional as the shorter ones in past generations. With the longer shorts there is more room to put graphics. Most teams like a simple graphic on the bottom of one of the legs. They generally choose the team's logo and/or the player's number. This serves the purpose of not only identifying the team and the individual player, but it also brings the uniform together, uniting the jersey with the shorts. Deciding on the new basketball uniforms for a team is a big and fun responsibility. Whether you are looking at outfitting a bunch of little kids for a city recreation program, helping your high school team gain credibility among the other schools or just updating an outdated style, the options and benefits of designing and purchasing new uniforms are almost endless. Players will feel more united and more powerful, they will be more comfortable wearing the jerseys that are updated for their style and they will feel more pride wearing jerseys that are fresh and new. It's completely worth investing in new basketball uniforms regularly. Click here for more information on basketball uniforms.
