If you own an all-terrain vehicle and you do not have land of your own where you can ride it, you have likely thought about transporting your vehicle to an area where ATV trails are provided for riding and exploring nature. It is important to pack some necessary items when taking a trip to spend time on ATV trails so you remain comfortable and safe during your excursion.

A Way To Know Your Location

When you search for ATV trails to explore, it is important that you are able to find your way back to your vehicle when your riding session comes to an end. Some ATV trail locations provide maps to those who decide to use their land. Others do not have documentation on-hand at the trail entrance. If this is the case, you should have a map at your disposal so you have an idea of the lay of the land. Make sure to be aware of landmarks as you make your way down trails. Pack a compass as well.

Food And Water

Should you happen to become lost while on an ATV trail, or if you ride a far distance away from the trail entrance, you may find that you are unable to get to your vehicle for a snack or water right away. For this reason, always carry a few granola bars, protein bars, or nuts for an instant boost. Also, have a thermos of water available to drink at all times.

A Way To Communicate

It is wise to have a cell phone available so you can make a call to someone if you become injured or lost, or if your vehicle breaks down while riding on ATV trails. It is also a good idea to ride with a partner if possible rather than going on a trip by yourself. Walkie-talkies are also useful so you can keep in contact with others in your group.

Protective Items

A first aid kit is a must-have for anyone who rides along ATV trails. If you become hurt, you do not have someone readily available to tend to your injury. In addition, tire patches, a hand-held air compressor, and a small bottle of engine oil can all be useful should your vehicle happen to run into mechanical difficulties while you are away from your daily driver. Stash all of these items in a backpack or bag that you can place on the back rack or center console area of your ATV.
